Privacy policy

Last updated November 1, 2026

This policy explains what information BC Locals handles and why. We follow Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and BC privacy law.

Business listings

Listings contain business information: name, business address, business phone, website and category. It comes from openly licensed, publicly available sources. If a listing includes personal information, such as a home address, we remove it on request — see Remove or correct a listing.

Business owner accounts

When you claim a listing we collect your name, email address, phone number and the changes you make. We use this only to verify ownership, run your account and contact you about your listing. If you tick the box asking for help with a website, we will contact you about that too. You can withdraw that consent at any time.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell or rent personal information.
  • We never store your password itself — only a one-way scrambled version (hash) that can’t be turned back into it.
  • We do not send marketing email without your consent.

Cookies and analytics

The site works without tracking cookies. If we add analytics or advertising tools, we will update this page and show a notice before any non-essential cookies are set.

Security and retention

Account data is stored on secure servers in North America over HTTPS. Verification codes expire after 10 minutes, and repeated wrong passwords lock the account for a short time. We delete account data within 30 days after you close your account or ask us to.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you. Email hello@bclocals.ca. If you are not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
